Makeup May! Sweet Spring FOTD

Happy Makeup May and welcome to my first Makeup Monday!

Over the years I have tried my best to sprinkle in some of my favorite beauty items and reviews. Now, I think it is time for much more makeup! To start off Makeup May I wanted to share a recent face of the day (FOTD).

This look is my go to, Liner, Lashes, & Lips from my mommy makeup series. The entire looks usually takes me 5-10 minutes at most, depending on whether I define my brows and add lashes. The whole process includes primer, foundation or bb cream, and setting my face with powder. If I have an extra two minutes I might highlight with concealer and bake while doing the next step.

For the liner portion of this look, I combined Wet N Wild blue liquid and black glitter fantasy maker liner. I applied the blue liner first and immediately added the glitter eyeliner to it. This gave me the dark navy line with a hint of sparkle. The fantasy maker items are only sold during October but they do sell another black glitter eyeliner all year.

Usually, the lashes only include mascara but I occasionally add falsies for flare. Today was definitely a flare day! Currently, my favorite lashes are the Wispy style by Broadway. These lashes add flare and I love how they aren’t perfect like natural lashes. These add great length, are very inexpensive, and extremely lightweight.

On my cheeks, I did add so glow with a few swipes of highlight and blush. Today’s blush is a mix of the darker colors in the BH Cosmetics Professional Blush – 10 Color Blush Palette. I always tap into several colors when using this palette. I used the Wet N Wild Mega Glo Loose Highlighting Powder to brighten up my T-zone.

Finally, on my lips, I’m wearing LA Colors Oh So Shiny lip color in the shade Radiant. I picked up the entire set of these lippies from eBay. I love that they are shiny because I was a bit over the matte phase. These lipsticks add sheen and glow to your perfect pout.

Hope you enjoyed this look!

My 4 Go-To Makeup Looks

Makeup has become one of my favorite hobbies and I definitely enjoy collecting cute pieces, perfecting application on myself, and applying it to others. Now of course nothing is more comfortable than a fresh face; however, I love to simply enhance my own beauty with some key looks.  I also enjoy the smile and priceless reaction from women when I give them the perfect “beat” face.  So here are my four quick and go-to makeup looks along with examples via recent tutorial and/or face of the day (fotd) video.

4 Go-To Makeup Looks 1

This beauty list is in no particular order because they are all equally awesome, fantastic, and gorgeous.

  1. MONOCHROMATIC eyeshadow looks good on all women but I think it looks featuring BLUE, PURPLE, and TURQUOISE eyeshadow PHENOMENAL on women of color.  My favorite purple palettes are the BH Cosmetics 120 5th Edition and the Coastal Scents Winterberry  because both offer a variety of gorgeous variations within the purple family.  My favorite blue and turquoise eyeshadows are Chaos (bright blue matte) and Unhinged (metallic shimmer turquoise) form the Urban Decay Vice 4 palette.  I also like Dalia and Zola from the Juvia’s Place Masquerade palette because the pigmentation is outstanding.

2.  MODEST GLAM is another makeup look I love to rock because alone it gives a subtle sexy vibe and can easily be dressed up by adding some extra smoke. This type of look is great for date nights because it screams “romance me husband” and “I’m yours” especially in the moonlight.  For these looks I love the velvety texture of the Lorac palettes including the Lorac Pro and Lorac Mega Pro collections.

3.  BARE FACED BEAUTY is definitely one of my top four because the No Makeup, Makeup Look is the perfect way to enhance your natural beauty.  I really like to wear this look with either a completely natural vibe without any blush or highlight or with extra highlight alongside a light flush (soft blush application). I usually call these looks my mommy makeup because it literally takes my 5-7 minutes to complete it from start to finish.  This was my favorite makeup look during all of my pregnancies.

4.  RED CARPET READY is for when I want to go ALL OUT! These looks definitely bring out the oooos, ahhhs, and plenty of compliments.  I save these looks for weddings, celebrations, or a random Tuesday when I have the extra time.  Oh and 9 times out of 10 these looks include glitter and lashes galore.

I hope you enjoyed this quick look at several ways I frequently apply my makeup.  As the trends change with the times I am certain these looks will never go out of style. After all, the Monochromatic, Modest Glam, Bare Faced Beauty, and Red Carpet ready looks are timeless classics and should be respected as such.

Of Course I NEED New Makeup!

One of my favorite things about the New Year is the sales that go on and the introductions of the spring product lines from cosmetic companies.  From the looks of the announcements and blogs, this year is going to be a beautiful one for makeup.  I AM SO EXCITED!!

makeup-1

I am looking forward to everything that Wet N Wild has to offer because their product line has become more and more chic and trendy each year.  From the pastel and metallic products in the Spring/Summer lines to the dazzle, glow, and glitter of their holiday line I expect nothing but great things from them in 2017.  I will also be impatiently waiting for the next PRO palette from Lorac Cosmetics because each one has been more gorgeous than its predecessor.  Finally, I am staying on the lookout for anything Juvia’s Place has to offer because their products have been a true asset to my personal collection.

Recently I was able to catch some awesome products on sale and received several as gifts during the holiday season.  To see what new beauties I’ve added to my makeup collection check out my recent video.

I can’t wait to see what the 2017 makeup trends will be and how every person will individualize them.  But for now, I will enjoy the gorgeous items I just unboxed and do my best to avoid another makeup sale.

I mean it! I am going to sit on my hands when the next beauty item pops up on my Instagram feed.

No, for real!  I’m not buying anymore makeup.

Okay, I don’t mean like never, but for a really, really, really, really long time.

Yep, at least three or four months because that is a reasonable amount of time to wait before buying something new.

Seriously! I feel like you don’t believe me.  You can trust me to run the other direction.

#BrowGameStrong but Brunette STILL isn’t dark enough

I was super excited when I came across this a new product from wet and wild called Ultimate Brow Mascara. I picked up the darkest color they offered which was for brunettes and did my best to get it to work for me. In order to have the perfect color match I also used a black mascara to darken the product. I love the formula of it because it is light and not cakey; however, I wish that it did come in a color that is similar to their mink brown eyeliner pencil.

I believe this product is great for filling in a natural brown without taking away from the original beauty. I also really appreciate that it fills and sets your eyebrows in one step.  Overall I give this product 4/5 due to the ease of application and formula. I’d recommend it to makeup beginners and any woman looking for a quick brow enhancing product.

Now Wet’n’Wild, you’ve made me grin with your new product but let’s go darker. My brow game is strong but brunette STILL isn’t dark enough for most women of color. Update the colors and that missing star might just magically appear.

For a quick tutorial featuring this product, check out my recent video.

My Mary Kay Story

I was nine or ten years old when I started asking about Mary Kay products. My mother was a customer of the brand for years and I always admired how she applied the products. Once she told me that I could have my own set of Mary Kay products at twelve I counted down the days until that birthday. Little did she know, her makeup introduction would give me the most important training every young woman and MUA needs; great makeup begins with great skin care.

It was at my first Mary Kay party that I learned that you shouldn’t sleep in makeup as it ages your skin fourteen days. It was at my first Mary Kay party that I learned you shouldn’t pump your mascara because the air dries it out. I also learned that there is a red blush and lipstick for EVERY complexion. Oh and I can’t forget that you should exfoliate your skin weekly and to use your trash day as a reference. Yes, I learned so much at my first Mary Kay party.

Even though I have a love for the company I’m not a representative. I know, I know, I know. I do like the old school skin care products and I swear by their acne treatment gel but I don’t sell it. However, I know several women that do sell and will share their information if you’re interested in trying out the products I used for this neutral look.

I recently reviewed a few products from Jessica Woolridge and I was impressed with how well the makeup looked on me. I also tried the new Botanicals skin care but found that I prefer the old school “formula 2” system I was introduced to or the newer Time Wise system.

A big thank you to Jessica for the opportunity to revisit Mary Kay and be reminded of how I was introduced to great skin and makeup. Be sure to check out her online store for your Mary Kay needs.
