Top 3 Tips to Help You READ More

Reading is a hobby that I’ve enjoyed since childhood and my love for books has increased over the years. As a child, I enjoyed mysteries and recently introduced Bear to the Hank the Cowdog series. It makes me smile when he retells the stories I remember from childhood. Even, my younger two love listening to books and learning how to read.

As awesome as reading is, I know it can be hard to find time to do it. Here are three quick tips I implemented to read more.

  1. Make it a family affair by reading a book together or meeting in the same room to read. After you read, encourage conversation by asking content questions. Even younger children can tell you their favorite things, favorite characters, and how the book made them feel.
  2. Turn off the television and put away devices so you can focus. Rather than coming together and watching TV, make an effort to turn off the television and swap that show for a book. Don’t play with your phone or scroll through social media either. By doing this just twice a week you’ll be able to read much more.
  3. Audio books count too! We like listening to books while riding in the car rather than music. We just finished The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and everyone enjoyed the different character voices. After we listened to the book, we watched the movie and discussed comparisons to the book.

It doesn’t take much to add a bit of reading to your day. Keep including this time and before long, you’ll be finishing books rapidly. My summer reading list is long but you can see what I’m taking on via this YouTube video.

I recently finished Shaunti Feldhahn’s The Kindness Challenge and here are my thoughts on that book.

I also have a list featuring my five favorite family read alouds in this video.

So, what is next on your reading list?

Kingdom Woman Giveaway

You ever read something and think “FINALLY, this author gets me completely,”?  That’s the exact feelings that I had when I hosted a book study for Kingdom Woman, co-authored by Tony Evans and Chrystal Evans Hurst.   Initially, I read the book to accompany my husband while he was part of a Kingdom Man book study without church.  After reading the book, I knew I had to invite other women to check it out so I created a study group with some women from our church.  The response was phenomenal, and I know the ladies that participated really enjoyed the book, the discussion, and the giveaway prizes.

My favorite part about this book was the different perspectives each author brought to the topic.  I loved the way Dr. Evans provided detailed bible knowledge and walked you through the scripture and testimonies of why God’s design for womanhood works.  I also loved how Mrs. Hurst was able to include the life application for women and soften the verbiage of her father with situations that we can relate too.  In my opinion, neither author outdid one another as their abilities were definitely portrayed through every word.

Now of course, I don’t want you to just take my word for it rather, read this book for yourself and let me know your thoughts.  You can purchase this book via Tony Evans website or other major retailers where books are sold.  For more of my thoughts on Kingdom Woman and a GIVEAWAY, check out my recent video.

Happy Reading: Wives of The Bible

Let me start with a disclaimer. If you are a wife that doesn’t desire to grow then this blog post is NOT for you. If you are a wife that is perfect and refuses to acknowledge that life CHRISTstyle requires a daily flesh death and consistent reminders via the word, then this blog post is NOT for you. However, if you are a wife that seeks The Lord daily for guidance and strength to endure until the end and desires to be a wife of the word not the world then you’ve come to the right review. Also if you love your husband first and truly delight in serving him because it honors Him then definitely keep reading for something awesome to add to your library.

With that being said here are my thoughts on Wives of The Bible by Jolene Engle

Wives let me just tell you I’ve had a great time with this book. This book has shown me who I was, currently am, and given me hope for what God is shaping me into. I am a wife that gets excited about operating in my creation role so to read a book that recognizes that and supports it is so refreshing. I’ve shared this book on all my social networks while reading it and so many women have told me how much they enjoy it.

I definitely desire to be a wife of the word and not the world so I can’t wait to discuss this book with other wives. The most AMAZING thing about this book is that I realized I’ve grown tremendously but I wasn’t discouraged when reminded that I have more growing to do. That’s what I got from this book. Every wife has an Eve moment, Lot’s wife moment, and even a crazy Job’s wife moment but eventually by God’s Grace we will grow into the Proverbs 31 Woman. Through our growth we will also become part of the most glorious, one time only, extravagant and holy wedding as the Bride of Christ.

I could go on and on but that’s what the video version is for. Check out my recent upload to hear my detailed thoughts on this book.
