Our 2018 Homeschool Goals & Resolutions

Usually people are excited about going into January with new goals in place but by the middle of the month, most have moved away from them.  I use January as a time of reflection, fasting, and separation from social media to clear my head.  After this time I set my goals and resolutions for the new year and I get going to meet and exceed them.   Since February is about love, I thought I’d share a special tip each week on how you can “Love Your Selfie” better in 2018.  This week’s tips is to simply set S.M.A.R.T. goals and begin the work towards achieving them.

Love your selfie 1

Goal setting is simply a measured form of setting a resolution because you will be able to check your progress via timeframes and completed steps as you work towards it.  Whether the personal, professional, or spiritual part of your life, there should always be a goal you are working towards.  Your goals should be specific, measureable, achievable (attainable), relevant, and time bound (traceable).  Remember to express your goals positively and repeat them aloud often.  Write them down and hang them somewhere in your home that is part of your daily and frequent line of sight.  Furthermore, set precise dates to measure your achievement and celebrate once you’ve completed it.

Homeschool Resolutions 3

I recently found this on social media and thought I’d share this quick yet fun activity.  **Disclaimer: Now, this is only an activity and should only be used as your set goals or resolutions if you deem the statements applicable to where you are or desire to be.** It is my hope that this little activity makes you laugh, smile, and ignites your passion for accomplishing great things in 2018!

I just love the predictive text posts I’ve been seeing lately and I thought this one was perfect way to set some cute and quirky homeschool goals/resolutions.  Initially I used the original formula to create these three sentences:

  • Be a little faster than the last one.
  • Be a lot of money to the other side of the world.
  • Be the best sales people in The Lone Star State. (this applies to husband)
  • Be the best option that he enjoys.

I used my device to write so my predictive text includes a myriad of long phrases in addition to the words.  I decided to just start with “Be” and create a few more sentences which I felt were spot on for my current season. Here are the additional ones I came up with:

  • Be more about our homeschooling.
  • Be a great idea to the other side of the world.
  • Be encouraged by preschoolers watching ABC Mouse and the dialogue.
  • Be sure to see how your day was filled with phenomenal memories.
  • Be safe from dangers seen and heard.

Though this activity was meant to be fun I believe I created the perfect combination of achievement possibilities for Team KEMP Academy.  I felt so inspired that I decided to appropriately rewrite these (as suggested above) in my planners and adopt them as our resolutions for 2018.  I’ve actually already started setting things in motion to ensure we achieve each one.

Homeschool Resolutions 2

Now it is your turn to complete the activity.  To reflect the image used earlier, the formula is:

  1. Be a lot…
  2. Be a little…
  3. Be the best…

Type those first words and then use predictive text until you have a complete sentence.

So, what cute, quirky, or accurate resolutions did you come up with?  Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

Merry CHRISTmas

christmas 2017 8

Merry Christmas!!  Yes, despite the few comments and many emails received due to this holiday blog post, our household still celebrates Christmas and all the joy that comes with the season.  The month of December was filled with joy, celebration, vacations, and family memories and we can’t wait to share our accomplishments with you.

christmas 2017 6

Here is the list of awesome accomplishments from December:

  1. We completed five Science projects!  This was a fun month for science and all the children had so much fun conducting experiments on their level.
  2. We attended several Christmas parties via friends, family, and church throughout the month.  We even hosted our own Holiday Pajama Party on Christmas Eve.
  3. I lesson planned, and lesson planned, and lesson planned some more!
  4. We managed to laugh and smile through the holiday season a lot more than we thought we would.  Losing a loved ones, no matter when, is hard but we are grateful for the comfort of God as we made it through our first Christmas without Pops, my husband’s father who passed in July, and Great Pa-Pa, my grandfather who passed at the beginning of December. As 2017 comes to an end, I implore each of you to love on ALL (yes, I mean ALL) of your family, make time to make memories, and take lots of pictures. Time is our most valuable currency as well as our most precious commodity and inestimable asset.  Every one should make family time a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly priority because life, no matter how long, is truly short

christmas 2017 7

Father God, thank you for the reader of my blog posts and viewers of the YouTube videos because their support has afforded a myriad of opportunities and for that I am truly grateful.  Thank you for family, friends, and all the memories we have made with them this year.  Thank you for the year 2017!  It might not have been perfect but strengthening our obedience to your will and growth in your word was worth every obstacle encountered.  Thank you for the every year ending with reminders to be thankful in November and to spread CHRISTmas joy in December! And finally Lord, thank you for the birth, life, death, and subsequent resurrection of your son Jesus Christ through which we have immediate access to salvation.  Just as you did this year, and in every moment of time prior, we trust you to guide us into and through 2018 because we can accomplish nothing without you.  In the name of Jesus, Amen

christmas 2017 9

We accomplished a lot more but I think that’s enough to share for now.  This is the last blog post for 2017 and I pray that it finds you all in the best of health, strength, and faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I am so grateful for each and every person that has supported my hobby this year and hope you found encouragement, laughs, and learned a few new things. I can’t wait to see what next year brings!

See you in 2018,

The Lizard Won

This is another long social media status update that popped up in my memories from five years ago. I definitely wanted to share this and the lesson said I learned from the experience.

One of my favorite scriptures is 2 Timothy 1:7 which reads, “for God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”  It was the first scripture that I taught Bear, our oldest, and I use it in prayer daily.  I truly believe that God has not given me the spirit of fear, I have power through him, I love everyone, and my mind is equipped to make sound judgement calls and initiate self control.  I walk boldly in faith knowing that God is always in control and I’m equipped to handle whatever comes my way.

But occasionally, I’m reminded that I am still human. Sometimes I might find myself in a situation that causes me to feel nervous, anxious, or even scared.  Especially when I lift up the laundry basket and see a HUGE, three inch lizard sitting on my couch.  At which point I scream and quicly spray air freshener at it.  Then in order to protect myself and my son from this dinosaur, I immediately flipped all the couch cushions over.

I figured that wasn’t enough to ensure Godzilla was gone so I mustered up my SUPER HUMAN mommy strength and flipped over the couch. I then ferociously sprayed my Lavender Vanilla air freshener defense shield to ward off the HUMONGOUS three inch lizard.  There might have been some screaming, praying aloud, and even a couple of tears as I battled the world’s largest small house gecko. I’m 100% sure those came from me. My son BEAR, who was four at the time, stood firm and said “Mama, God has not given us the spirit of fear.” I quickly replied, “that doesn’t apply to lizards,” as I cautiously scanned the living room to ensure our white, four legged visitor was gone.

So with that being said clearly I have power to lift couches.  Eventually, I used my sound mind to (self control) to calm down because I realized that I’m bigger than the terrible lizard.  I also used it as an opportunity to teach my son what not to do when you’re scared.  I also reminded him that the little lizard was afraid of me too.  Shall we say love caused me to spray my Lavender Vanilla air freshener defense system to protect my son?

But, when it came to fear…

On this day, THE LIZARD WON.

Make this week fantastic,

I love my Bible!

I posted this Facebook status update back in July of 2013 and thought it was worth sharing again today.
Every Sunday I look forward to seeing a little boy at my church. Why? Well because EVERY SUNDAY he proudly shows me his Bible.  He tells me who bought it for him and why it is his favorite book.  He shows me the maps and talks about how he is going to learn about every place shown.  This is one of my favorite weekly moments because each week he is more excited about that Bible than he was the previous week.

Do you remember the day you realized that life without Christ wasn’t worth living?

Do you remember when you learned that Jesus is the only way to the Father?

Do you remember going through your ABCs (Acknowledge, Believe,  Confess)?

Do you remember the day you gave the Most High God, the only wise and true God your heart?

Do you remember when you got saved? Yes I said “got saved”.

Are you saved?

If not, don’t wait because time is running out.

I REMEMBER!! And every Sunday I’m reminded, via this child’s enthusiasm, just how important that decision was then and still is today.

I thought that this was a great reminder and an opportunity to issue a couple of challenges that I shared in previous years via my YouTube channel. I am challenging myself and every reader to participate in both. Feel free to comment below and let me know which plan you are completing on the YouVersion app or which book and/or book of the Bible you are studying.  Currently I am studying the beattitudes and I’m really enjoying it. I’m also 66% through my Bible in 90 days reading plan on YouVersion.

I’d also like to share with you a quick video about a free Bible devotional for children called Keys for Kids.  You can get this daily via email, online, or mailed to you quarterly.

Make this week grand,

Harvey Relief and How You Can Help

The great thing about being a Christian is the wisdom in knowing you should put works with your faith.  Right now, during the devastation of hurricane Harvey more than prayer is needed.  People need season appropriate clothing, food, clean water, shoes, and so much more.  Diapers, wipes, formula, and other baby items are also in high demand.  There are also many organizations that you can provide a financial donation to as well.

Even if you are nowhere near the devastation, and you can still put together a donation drive through your local church, school, or community.  Seeing people come together in times like these is such an amazing testimony to the power of working together.  Even though people have lost their homes, precious memories, and other material things, we as believers can ensure that they never lose their dignity.  We can ensure that they never go a day without feeling loved and cared for during their transition to a new home or back into their own home.

If you can’t give financially then you can donate your time by volunteering. Sending encouraging letters to first responders in the affected areas, helping a donation drive sort out items, and providing a foster home for displaced pets are a few ways you can help out.  And, even if you can’t do any of that, keep praying for everyone affected and those working or volunteering.

Last but certainly not least, please be mindful of what to send and where to send it. For example shipping water is expensive so just donate money to a specific organization and they can buy water.  Also, if you are donating clothing please donate CLEAN, season appropriate clothing and only donate NEW underwear, panties, bras, undershirts, and socks.  Here is a recent article with additional detailed suggestions on how you can help: How to help Hurricane Harvey Recovery.

Today, I Need Some Encouragement

Last month, my family endured a devastating loss and after all we’ve endured, rest is definitely needed. Usually, I’ve prepared my monthly blog posts well in advance but right now, my mind is all over the place.  I am typing this completely worn out at 1:00 am CST in our hotel suite.  My family is resting after a long two weeks and I think tonightI will FINALLY get a long overdue 8 hours of sleep.  I look forward to coming back in September with a tribute to our family member and some great series but until then, enjoy these reposts and recent videos.

This week I needed some encouragement so check out my recent video about the covering of God and check out the blog post by clicking this fantastic hyperlink.

Make this week grand,

Overcoming February & March Goals

Hello March, what took you so long to get here?

March Goal Blog 6

Let me tell you all something very important, February was a rough month for me.  All these years I never realized how much I relied on food to get me through the issues of life.  I mean of course I enjoyed an occasional pint of ice cream or Dairy Queen Blizzard after an argument with my college boyfriend.  What young girl didn’t?

March Goal Blog 1

And yes I might have turned to some southern style comfort foods like cream gravy over starchy potatoes or macaroni and cheese when the going got tough. Wait, that’s not normal?

March Goal Blog 2

Okay well maybe the speech I gave myself time and time again that since my thyroid was an issue hindering my weight loss, I didn’t need to work so hard.  In fact, maintaining all this extra weight was okay as long as I didn’t gain.  I totally believed that 40 pounds ago.

March Goal Blog 3

Yeah, so now you see why February was such an emotional month for me.  Along with the normal stress of life I just had to choose the month filled with extra issues to kick my food addiction.  So here I was dealing with a hospitalized husband WITHOUT OVEREATING!  I was also forced to handle other pop up issues including lost friendships, a rumor report I shut down, father-in-law’s illness, and season of depression that I hung onto longer than I should have.  Lord, I really needed that ice cream and carbohydrate high last month.

March Goal Blog 7

Once I did some research and realized what was going on I completely understood why I felt so overwhelmed with emotions and assumed I had no other way to handle them.  As a believer, I had to also do some biblical research to understand what was going on with my body.  I definitely suggest the Error of Man and Error of Man 2 DVDs by Pastor Lewis because these were very helpful and included tips on how to combat this weight loss journey naturally and spiritually.  I also enjoyed Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead as well as Fat Sick, and Nearly Dead 2 via Netflix as both were great motivation to kick sugar and carbohydrate addiction out the door.  I also did a lot of research about my thyroid and what foods I can eat to help it function better. **When doing research look for reputable sources and always consult a physician and nutrition when making changes to your diet.**

This month I look forward to continuing to conqueror this weight loss and learning more about proper nutrition for my family.  #TeamKEMP has been so awesome to come along this journey with me and they haven’t complained that much about the new foods.  We try a new food each week and most have been a hit.  I’m grateful for such an amazing support system because some people don’t have that.  I also plan to complete another cleanse this month.  Also, “according to my research” as my systems get cleaned out I know what to look for I can combat my withdrawal symptoms while my body get used to an even healthier, healthy lifestyle.

I think you get the point here.  In 2017 I will be victorious over this because I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME. (Philippians 4:13)
