The Lizard Won

This is another long social media status update that popped up in my memories from five years ago. I definitely wanted to share this and the lesson said I learned from the experience.

One of my favorite scriptures is 2 Timothy 1:7 which reads, “for God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”  It was the first scripture that I taught Bear, our oldest, and I use it in prayer daily.  I truly believe that God has not given me the spirit of fear, I have power through him, I love everyone, and my mind is equipped to make sound judgement calls and initiate self control.  I walk boldly in faith knowing that God is always in control and I’m equipped to handle whatever comes my way.

But occasionally, I’m reminded that I am still human. Sometimes I might find myself in a situation that causes me to feel nervous, anxious, or even scared.  Especially when I lift up the laundry basket and see a HUGE, three inch lizard sitting on my couch.  At which point I scream and quicly spray air freshener at it.  Then in order to protect myself and my son from this dinosaur, I immediately flipped all the couch cushions over.

I figured that wasn’t enough to ensure Godzilla was gone so I mustered up my SUPER HUMAN mommy strength and flipped over the couch. I then ferociously sprayed my Lavender Vanilla air freshener defense shield to ward off the HUMONGOUS three inch lizard.  There might have been some screaming, praying aloud, and even a couple of tears as I battled the world’s largest small house gecko. I’m 100% sure those came from me. My son BEAR, who was four at the time, stood firm and said “Mama, God has not given us the spirit of fear.” I quickly replied, “that doesn’t apply to lizards,” as I cautiously scanned the living room to ensure our white, four legged visitor was gone.

So with that being said clearly I have power to lift couches.  Eventually, I used my sound mind to (self control) to calm down because I realized that I’m bigger than the terrible lizard.  I also used it as an opportunity to teach my son what not to do when you’re scared.  I also reminded him that the little lizard was afraid of me too.  Shall we say love caused me to spray my Lavender Vanilla air freshener defense system to protect my son?

But, when it came to fear…

On this day, THE LIZARD WON.

I love my Bible!

I posted this Facebook status update back in July of 2013 and thought it was worth sharing again today.
—–
Every Sunday I look forward to seeing a little boy at my church. Why? Well because EVERY SUNDAY he proudly shows me his Bible.  He tells me who bought it for him and why it is his favorite book.  He shows me the maps and talks about how he is going to learn about every place shown.  This is one of my favorite weekly moments because each week he is more excited about that Bible than he was the previous week.

Do you remember the day you realized that life without Christ wasn’t worth living?

Do you remember when you learned that Jesus is the only way to the Father?

Do you remember going through your ABCs (Acknowledge, Believe,  Confess)?

Do you remember the day you gave the Most High God, the only wise and true God your heart?

Do you remember when you got saved? Yes I said “got saved”.

Are you saved?

If not, don’t wait because time is running out.

I REMEMBER!! And every Sunday I’m reminded, via this child’s enthusiasm, just how important that decision was then and still is today.

———-

I thought that this was a great reminder and an opportunity to issue a couple of challenges that I shared in previous years via my YouTube channel. I am challenging myself and every reader to participate in both. Feel free to comment below and let me know which plan you are completing on the YouVersion app or which book and/or book of the Bible you are studying.  Currently I am studying the beattitudes and I’m really enjoying it. I’m also 66% through my Bible in 90 days reading plan on YouVersion.

I’d also like to share with you a quick video about a free Bible devotional for children called Keys for Kids.  You can get this daily via email, online, or mailed to you quarterly.

Harvey Relief and How You Can Help

The great thing about being a Christian is the wisdom in knowing you should put works with your faith.  Right now, during the devastation of hurricane Harvey more than prayer is needed.  People need season appropriate clothing, food, clean water, shoes, and so much more.  Diapers, wipes, formula, and other baby items are also in high demand.  There are also many organizations that you can provide a financial donation to as well.

Even if you are nowhere near the devastation, and you can still put together a donation drive through your local church, school, or community.  Seeing people come together in times like these is such an amazing testimony to the power of working together.  Even though people have lost their homes, precious memories, and other material things, we as believers can ensure that they never lose their dignity.  We can ensure that they never go a day without feeling loved and cared for during their transition to a new home or back into their own home.

If you can’t give financially then you can donate your time by volunteering. Sending encouraging letters to first responders in the affected areas, helping a donation drive sort out items, and providing a foster home for displaced pets are a few ways you can help out.  And, even if you can’t do any of that, keep praying for everyone affected and those working or volunteering.

Last but certainly not least, please be mindful of what to send and where to send it. For example shipping water is expensive so just donate money to a specific organization and they can buy water.  Also, if you are donating clothing please donate CLEAN, season appropriate clothing and only donate NEW underwear, panties, bras, undershirts, and socks.  Here is a recent article with additional detailed suggestions on how you can help: How to help Hurricane Harvey Recovery.

Today, I Need Some Encouragement

Last month, my family endured a devastating loss and after all we’ve endured, rest is definitely needed. Usually, I’ve prepared my monthly blog posts well in advance but right now, my mind is all over the place.  I am typing this completely worn out at 1:00 am CST in our hotel suite.  My family is resting after a long two weeks and I think tonightI will FINALLY get a long overdue 8 hours of sleep.  I look forward to coming back in September with a tribute to our family member and some great series but until then, enjoy these reposts and recent videos.

This week I needed some encouragement so check out my recent video about the covering of God and check out the blog post by clicking this fantastic hyperlink.

Overcoming February & March Goals

Hello March, what took you so long to get here?

March Goal Blog 6

Let me tell you all something very important, February was a rough month for me.  All these years I never realized how much I relied on food to get me through the issues of life.  I mean of course I enjoyed an occasional pint of ice cream or Dairy Queen Blizzard after an argument with my college boyfriend.  What young girl didn’t?

March Goal Blog 1

And yes I might have turned to some southern style comfort foods like cream gravy over starchy potatoes or macaroni and cheese when the going got tough. Wait, that’s not normal?

March Goal Blog 2

Okay well maybe the speech I gave myself time and time again that since my thyroid was an issue hindering my weight loss, I didn’t need to work so hard.  In fact, maintaining all this extra weight was okay as long as I didn’t gain.  I totally believed that 40 pounds ago.

March Goal Blog 3

Yeah, so now you see why February was such an emotional month for me.  Along with the normal stress of life I just had to choose the month filled with extra issues to kick my food addiction.  So here I was dealing with a hospitalized husband WITHOUT OVEREATING!  I was also forced to handle other pop up issues including lost friendships, a rumor report I shut down, father-in-law’s illness, and season of depression that I hung onto longer than I should have.  Lord, I really needed that ice cream and carbohydrate high last month.

March Goal Blog 7

Once I did some research and realized what was going on I completely understood why I felt so overwhelmed with emotions and assumed I had no other way to handle them.  As a believer, I had to also do some biblical research to understand what was going on with my body.  I definitely suggest the Error of Man and Error of Man 2 DVDs by Pastor Lewis because these were very helpful and included tips on how to combat this weight loss journey naturally and spiritually.  I also enjoyed Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead as well as Fat Sick, and Nearly Dead 2 via Netflix as both were great motivation to kick sugar and carbohydrate addiction out the door.  I also did a lot of research about my thyroid and what foods I can eat to help it function better. **When doing research look for reputable sources and always consult a physician and nutrition when making changes to your diet.**

This month I look forward to continuing to conqueror this weight loss and learning more about proper nutrition for my family.  #TeamKEMP has been so awesome to come along this journey with me and they haven’t complained that much about the new foods.  We try a new food each week and most have been a hit.  I’m grateful for such an amazing support system because some people don’t have that.  I also plan to complete another cleanse this month.  Also, “according to my research” as my systems get cleaned out I know what to look for I can combat my withdrawal symptoms while my body get used to an even healthier, healthy lifestyle.

I think you get the point here.  In 2017 I will be victorious over this because I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME. (Philippians 4:13)

Celebrating the Love of My Life

First let me say that I am honored to celebrate the most amazing man on the planet.  For this birthday I wanted to take a trip back down memory lane to the the birthday posts from the past, thanks to Facebook Memories.

Today, in honor of this handsome, suave, intelligent, upstanding, strong, courageous, honorable, sexy, chivalrous birthday boy we created a fun video to show our love and appreciation for him.  It was so much fun to record and edit with my children and each one of us shared a special message with him.  We hope that you enjoy it just as much as we did.

On this Valentine’s Day, make time to let your family (estranged or close) and friends (near or far) know how much you love them.  Life is short so don’t waste any more precious time remaining distant from those you love.  Forgive, apologize, take lots of pictures, hug often, laugh until your stomach hurts, and make great memories with the ones that you love.

Oh and ladies, if you have a hot date planned for tonight, watch my recent tutorial for a beautiful makeup look that will sweep him off his feet.

Make today lovely,

Butt Bible Challenge Starts Today!

As with all exercise programs it is imperative that you participate at your own risk, as I assume no liability for encouraging you to exercise.  Be mindful of your body and please consult a physician prior to starting a workout or diet program.

motivation

Guess what?

Did you know that whatever day you choose to read this blog is a great day to begin this challenge?

Don’t fret about actual start/finish dates with this fitness experience, just make a decision to try it, push through it, and see it through until the end.

Today is your DAY #1!

squats

Here is everything you will need (to do and know) to complete this workout:

  1. This is a 6 week program with four scheduled workouts each week, ranging from 20-40 minutes, including warm-up and cool down.
  2. Throughout the program you will need a few pieces of equipment including a towel, barbell (or equivalent), dumbbells, and a chair.
  3. You will need to download and/or print the workout calendar pictured directly below this list.
  4. You will need the complete Butt Bible series by Pauline Nordin, which can be purchased via Amazon. (Click this cool hyperlink to purchase)
  5. You can also access these workouts FOR FREE via my YouTube BUTT BIBLE CHALLENGE playlist. (Yes, this super long hyperlink is for the FREE playlist)
  6. I find Pauline’s butt banter to be a bit silly and borderline annoying.  I also realized today that she does use the word “a**” twice.  I’ve chosen to either start or end my day with these workouts when the children are asleep.
  7. Lastly, you will need a positive attitude and healthy eating habits to ensure you are successful in this challenge.

butt-bible-calendar

In addition to the aforementioned tips, I suggest a form of accountability via a workout partner, journaling, or posting your exercises via social media.  At the end of this six weeks, I look forward to seeing a healthier version of myself along with the best rump of my life. LOL I busted out laughing as I typed that.  The rump isn’t the big issue (my rump is a HUGE issue LOL), I just look forward to completing this challenge because I’ve started and failed this Butt Bible series several times.  But in 2017 I will conquer this!

start-today

I hope you will join me and if you do, just find this post on Instagram (yes, another cool hyperlink), follow me, and comment “I’m in” under the photo.  I don’t mind being your social media accountability partner and please help me along the way. Also, check out my weight loss progress this month via my most recent Weight Loss Wednesday video.

Make this week beautiful,
