Today, I Need Some Encouragement

Last month, my family endured a devastating loss and after all we’ve endured, rest is definitely needed. Usually, I’ve prepared my monthly blog posts well in advance but right now, my mind is all over the place.  I am typing this completely worn out at 1:00 am CST in our hotel suite.  My family is resting after a long two weeks and I think tonightI will FINALLY get a long overdue 8 hours of sleep.  I look forward to coming back in September with a tribute to our family member and some great series but until then, enjoy these reposts and recent videos.

This week I needed some encouragement so check out my recent video about the covering of God and check out the blog post by clicking this fantastic hyperlink.

Make this week grand,

My Newest Addiction: Planners Galore!

My newest addiction is one that hit me like a ton of bricks after watching a suggested YouTube video.  My friend Bridgette has been telling me about using a planner for years but with the increase in phone capabilities, I just moved away from pen and paper.  Last year, I noticed that I was becoming drawn to my phone for every menial and important thing, including planning.  I noticed that I’d wake up and reach for my phone immediately and even end the day with playing on my phone.  That is not how it should be!  So, after some research and binge watching of planner videos I decided on the Happy Planner.

In January, I was so grateful that I happened to catch some Happy Planners on clearance in my local Mardel for $5.99 each and I purchased both designs.  One was the horizontal Rose Gold 2016-2017 and the other was vertical Peonies 2016-2017 style.  I immediately put both to use by just practicing spreads and alternating weeks for a couple of months.  As I defined my planner style, I realized that I preferred to use vertical for family/personal planning while the horizontal would work best as a gratitude journal.  In addition to those, I have added a several more planners to fit my lifestyle and I am so excited to share my planner line up for the remainder of 2017.

2017 HAPPY PLANNER LINE UP

  • Family/Personal scheduling will be jotted down in the beautiful Wildflowers 2017-2018, Classic
  • Daily Goals and Resolution Reminders will be placed in my undated A Well Crafted Life, Mini

  • Morning Prayer will be written down in the new horizontal, Have Faith, Classic
  • Weekly Sermon Notes will be transcribed within the 12 Month Box Kit – Faith Edition, Classic

  • Gratitude Journal entries shall be placed in the remaining months of my horizontal, Rose Gold, Classic
  • Fitness plans, goals, and accomplishments will be noted within the Fitness Extension Pack

I truly believe that using my planners for these various avenues has been a great decision.  It is so relaxing to begin and end my day with journaling rather than staring at a smart phone screen.  I’ve been able to put down the phone, pick up a book, and use my time wisely.  Of course, I still scroll aimlessly from time to time; however, those purposeless swipes are few and far between in 2017!  Thank God for my newest addiction and all the time I’ve managed to use wisely since my starting #plannerlife.

You can see more of my weekly spreads, planner hauls, and some of the sticker shops I use on my @Married2KDK Instagram account.  A blog post featuring my favorite sticker shops will be coming soon.  In this month’s flip through videos you will see stickers from several shops including MadeWithSouthernLuvTheBustyPlanner, Armadillo Amore,  StickItInYourPlanner, and PreppyPlannerCo.  You can also see individual flip through videos of each planner I showed via The Happy Planner youtube channel.

DIYs to Try #2

Over the years I’ve definitely enjoyed pulling from the talents bestowed upon me by my truly creative mother and I am always pleasantly surprised when I end up creating masterpieces.  In this quick post I want to share with you three DIYs I’ve tried that are of minimal cost, take a short amount of time, and are great to do in a group setting as well.

DIYs to try 2

Making a DIY Bling Shirt and Family Shirt is something I enjoy doing because they are always great conversation starters and each one carries certain memories.  I made a family shirt with a fun saying on it to wear to functions and it is my favorite because it was my first DIY piece of clothing.  The bling shirt with metallic lips came next and I received so many compliments on this shirt that several of my friends followed my tutorial and created their own.

Next, I decided to update my beauty storage so I set up my camera and recorded a DIY Makeup/Jewelry Storage video.  In this tutorial I share how I transformed my storage with duck tape and some glitter stickers.  I still use these unique pieces now but my collection (and storage) has doubled in size.  Currently I’m designing one for Princess so I can store her hair bows in it.

Finally, I wanted to share my DIY Organic Lip Scrub with you because this project takes approximately three minutes to create using items you already have in your kitchen.  I enjoy using brown sugar and adding beautiful scents like sprinkles of cinnamon or drops of vanilla extract, cocoa powder, or lemon oil.  You can also use a course salt to create scrubs as well.  For organic lip or body scrubs just use organic ingredients and the quality of your homemade product will be even better.

Hopefully these tutorials gave you a bit more confidence in creating your own memorable masterpieces.  My favorite part about these projects is teaching others how to do them and even passing down ideas and inspiration to my family.

Oh and feel free to click this attractive hyperlink for additional DIY inspiration and tutorials.

So, tell me what’s your next DIY creation going to be?

The Cutest $2 Spring/Summer Hat

For the past few Sundays my cute little daughter, Princess has been wearing some beautiful $2.00 hats that I decorated.  Yes, this entire DIY project cost me $2 since I already had the glue gun and glue sticks at home.  Our local Dollar Tree had some colorful straw hats available for the Spring season and I decided to purchase one in every color available.  I haven’t decorated the purple or red hats yet; however, my pink and blue creations came out beautiful.

As you can tell, Princess loves the hat so much.  She wears these hats to church, around the house, and on sunny days when we are outside.  I’m happy that I picked up every color because she will be able to wear these hats for a few years.  My only regret is that I didn’t pick up the matching purses Dollar Tree had available.  If you are interested in trying out this do-it-yourself project then watch my video for details and a quick tutorial on how to recreate this look with your own spin, of course.

I hope that you enjoyed that tutorial and if you decide to try out this Dollar Tree DIY then please let me know.  You can also check out my blog post about our front door Spring themed wreath made with items from Dollar Tree as well.

Another great thing about these spring do-it-yourself projects has been working outside and enjoying the beautiful weather we’ve been having in the Lone Star State. Don’t stay inside this spring!! Get out there and enjoy the sun while you read a book, play with your own children, or create your own beautiful Dollar tree project.

Spring Wreath & Other DIYs I’ve Tried

By my teenage years I’d come to realize that I have the desire to purchase the MOST EXPENSIVE thing available when it comes to home décor, fashion, hair, and even makeup; however, I definitely don’t have the budget.  As a result of not currently being a multimillionaire I have become a budget friendly, DIY QUEEN! I can recreate or create ANYTHING I set my mind to.  I probably hold the record for most use of the 30% off coupon at Mardel and the 40% off coupons from Hobby Lobby and Michaels.  Seriously, I need a trophy or something.

Through the years I have made shirts, blinged out shoes, tutus, denim vests, specialty items for my children, and furniture.  Whenever I see something I like that is out of my budget, I just search for a DIY tutorial and prepare to make it on my own.  Having a baby? I created my own gender reveal box and all the favors for our party.  Oh and let’s not forget that you can DIY makeup, manicure, and pedicure items too!  I have also made my own concealer palettes, blush palettes, pressed eyeshadow, and gorgeous highlighters.  After learning how to do my own acrylic nails due to a tragic nail shop incident, I have even used my favorite makeup to create unique acrylic and polishes for my nails.  I’ve even had several friends ask me “is there anything you can’t do?

I learned my DIY determination from my crafty mother.  She can definitely make something out of nothing and I’ve watched her do it for years.  Anytime I do a DIY I always ask her for opinion and I listen to her advice.  Sometimes I do my own thing, against her strong suggestions, but that’s nothing I haven’t seen her do before and it always turns out awesome.  She has taught me how to do my own hair and create marvelous projects at minimal cost and for that I am truly grateful.  I love my DIY mama!

So, after much thought and the frustration of paying for it to be done, I decided to conqueror the door wreath.  I purchased tools from Wal-Mart, the supplies from Dollar Tree, and spent approximately $13 for everything used.  My ONLY TWO SUGGESTIONS for conquering this project is to not be apprehensive because it was truly easy and watch a few tutorials to get an idea of how to create your masterpiece.  You can watch my tutorial of this beautiful floral wreath via my recent video.

If you enjoyed that DIY then you will definitely love seeing the other tutorials I have to offer via this YouTube playlist.  And don’t fret if you think a tutorial is missing because I have several more scheduled to edit and upload in the coming months including gift baskets as well as blinged out high heels and denim jackets.  As I learn to create something new I always offer to teach the skill to my family and friends.  I definitely make time to share the skills with my children as well just as my mother did with me.

If you want to see a first glimpse of my DIY projects before the blog post or YouTube tutorial comes out then be sure to follow me on Instagram and Twitter.

So, what’s your next DIY project going to be?
