June Weight Loss Update

june weight loss 1

Hello June!

I’m so excited to share a quick weight loss update with you guys because the scale has been moving in the right direction, thanks to my new friend.  First, thanks for hanging in there with me while I enjoyed my YouTube break.  I may not have been posting weekly weight loss updates but I was checking in via Instagram and Twitter with weight loss related posts from time to time.  I decided to end May and kick start June with a fun video showing off my new, plum colored friend, Fitbit Charge 2 HR.

So now that you’ve caught a quick glimpse of this purple beauty that I’ve owned for nearly three weeks, let’s get into the quick stats for May.

  • Lost 8 pounds
  • Won my first Goal Day challenge with 13,228 steps
  • Won my second Goal Day challenge with 10,086 steps
  • Started the Leslie Sansone: 30 Day Walk Off Kit program **review coming soon**
  • Reactivated my MyFitnessPal account

These are just a few things to note because I haven’t taken my measurements or my progress selfies for my fitness journal prior to writing this blog.  I’m just happy that things are continuing to go down, down, down.  I didn’t start the 30 Day Walk Off program until I got my Fitbit because I wanted al those steps to count.  I forgot how fun it was to use a tracker and I’ enjoying competing with my friends and family.  I’m trying to persuade husband to trade in his MJFOX Fitness Tracker (aka FAKEbit) for the official Fitbit; however, he is content so I will leave him be.  His tracker does the same thing mine’s does and I will include a review of that in an upcoming Weight Loss Wednesday video.

One thing I did note during this month was that sugar is in so many of the things I enjoy, even if I didn’t know it.  I’ve combated that by making my own, from scratch items to replace the things that carried that sneaky sugar.  I’ve also been very mindful about reading labels to ensure I don’t unknowingly hinder my progress with it.  In addition, our family has found joy in the “new veggie of the month” portion of our family menu.  In fact, I picked up a Happy Planner Recipe Kit so I can always jot down my favorite dishes using the new items or healthier versions of our favorites.

Overall, I call May a successful month and I look forward to all June has to offer.  This month I am going on two vacations so I definitely need to be aware so I don’t go backwards on my journey.  So CHEERS to an awesome month ahead!

Make this week amazing,

DIYs to Try #2

Over the years I’ve definitely enjoyed pulling from the talents bestowed upon me by my truly creative mother and I am always pleasantly surprised when I end up creating masterpieces.  In this quick post I want to share with you three DIYs I’ve tried that are of minimal cost, take a short amount of time, and are great to do in a group setting as well.

DIYs to try 2

Making a DIY Bling Shirt and Family Shirt is something I enjoy doing because they are always great conversation starters and each one carries certain memories.  I made a family shirt with a fun saying on it to wear to functions and it is my favorite because it was my first DIY piece of clothing.  The bling shirt with metallic lips came next and I received so many compliments on this shirt that several of my friends followed my tutorial and created their own.

Next, I decided to update my beauty storage so I set up my camera and recorded a DIY Makeup/Jewelry Storage video.  In this tutorial I share how I transformed my storage with duck tape and some glitter stickers.  I still use these unique pieces now but my collection (and storage) has doubled in size.  Currently I’m designing one for Princess so I can store her hair bows in it.

Finally, I wanted to share my DIY Organic Lip Scrub with you because this project takes approximately three minutes to create using items you already have in your kitchen.  I enjoy using brown sugar and adding beautiful scents like sprinkles of cinnamon or drops of vanilla extract, cocoa powder, or lemon oil.  You can also use a course salt to create scrubs as well.  For organic lip or body scrubs just use organic ingredients and the quality of your homemade product will be even better.

Hopefully these tutorials gave you a bit more confidence in creating your own memorable masterpieces.  My favorite part about these projects is teaching others how to do them and even passing down ideas and inspiration to my family.

Oh and feel free to click this attractive hyperlink for additional DIY inspiration and tutorials.

So, tell me what’s your next DIY creation going to be?

Havana is SENSATIONNEL!!

Okay, I just want to start this product rave by saying yes, I do know how to spell sensational but I used the company’s name to describe how beautiful this unit is.

I have the Havana unit by Sensationnel in the colors 1B (off black) and in the color DXR991 which is an ombre with black roots and burgundy ends.  I have enjoyed wearing these units so much because they are easy to style, maintain, and even blend perfectly with my hair texture.  These units are gorgeous and give me that BIG HAIR, DON’T CARE attitude with a stride to match.

If you want to see me rocking the ombre black/burgundy unit then check out this video

So tell me, what hairstyle makes you strut and boosts your confidence?

Captain Absolutely, a Cool Comic Book!

My son was so excited to receive and review the Captain Absolutely, from Focus On The Family.  This is a fun comic book that features fun characters, scriptures, a great plot, and encourages the readers to stand through adversity.

Captain A 1

In this edition, Captain Absolutely is faced with an opportunity to “defend the truth, justice, and lots more truth,” by battling Dr. Relative’s Lirus amongst other enemies.  Like any comic book this begins with some background which is great to those who are new to the captain absolutely stories.  I enjoy how it initially takes you down memory lane to explain how Captain Absolutely received his powers and why he holds the truth of God so dear.  His ultimate goal is to share the truth of God with everyone because the people need it.  Each time he uses or references scripture, there is an arrow that points to the quote which includes where to find it in the Bible.  We used this to as an opportunity to be the Berean, look in the Bible, and verify if what he said was truth.  This was just another reminder that you don’t always have to go extremely deep when you were using the word of God but our basic conversation, matched with a life that applies scripture, will always give him glory.

Throughout this comic book captain absolutely runs into several characters that are basically a depiction of things that hinder the people on a daily basis.  We learned how to defeat vile attitudes, anger, procrastination, distractions, and a lying tongue along with so much more.  Anytime our hero was faced with a situation he defeated it through God’s word and strength.  There’s also a portion of this comic book in which we learn how to accept the faith of Jesus Christ and understand the purpose of his birth, death, burial, and resurrection.  If your children have not accepted Christ, this would be a great opportunity to discuss your faith in detail with them and answer any questions they may have.  If they decided to accept Christ this moment will be a memorable experience for you both as you walk them through the process of salvation.  Aside from that, my favorite part was the example on how to forgive someone who has hurt you or be forgiven by someone we’ve hurt. “It takes a lot of strength to be truly vulnerable” is the quote that was perfectly placed in this portion of the book.

Captain A 2

Here is what Bear had to say “The Captain Absolutely comic is cool! It is fun to read and during you learn about God and how to trust him through everything. The character isn’t only fighting crime but he’s defending God’s truth and sharing the Gospel. My favorite thing about the book is the more and more people he saves, the more Christians we have to defend the gospel.” Bear, Age 9

Overall I really enjoyed our time with this Captain Absolutely comic book and would definitely recommend it to our family and friends who have children between the ages of 8 and up. Truthfully, I enjoyed reading it because you’re never too old for reminder that you can apply God’s word to every situation in your life. You are never too mature in the faith to remember that “you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.” (Philippians 4:13)  Our family has been supporters of Focus On The Family for years and both of our children are subscribed to the magazines that they offer.  We are happy to have added this comic book to our collection and I look forward to rereading it with my younger children.

Homeschool Rescue by Only Passionate Curiosity

OPC Homeschool Rescue 4

I had an early access opportunity to take (and subsequently review) a course called Homeschool Rescue, created by Only Passionate Curiosity.  This course was put together with a variety of homeschool parents in mind including those who are need help restructuring their homeschool or are currently frustrated and maybe even burnt out with their current education experience at home.  Throughout this course I have been able to take a thorough examination of how I homeschool, include options for my children’s specific learning styles, and even fine tune my household cleaning schedule.

OPC Homeschool Rescue 2

I was actually really excited to try this program because I am often asked for tips and advice on how to assess your homeschool.  Every Spring I sit down to look at what I’m teaching, how I’m teaching it, and determine whether or not it is effective based on my children’s responses, their own personal opinions, and our one-on-ones.  So, this course came at a perfect time because I was already doing this process on my own but using this course allowed me to take an even deeper look into Team Kemp Academy.  This is a self-paced, 8 week course that includes video lessons, homework, resources, and even a private support connection group through Facebook.  And to top it all off you get LIFETIME ACCESS to every piece of this program and all of the benefits.

OPC Homeschool Rescue 5

During this course Heather walks you through self-examination, household organization, homeschool goals, lesson planning, curriculum selection, decluttering, and various other things.  Each homework assignment was something that couldn’t be done in three or four minutes.  Honestly most tasks required you to take a long and even hard look at yourself and the effectiveness of your teaching.  I love that Heather provided additional help in understanding how your children learn and ways that you can immediately update your approach so you can teach them efficiently.  Some of the course didn’t apply to me, not because I didn’t need to do it but because we’d already completed it in our initial year of homeschooling.  Those moments felt great because it reminded me that I was on track and provided an opportunity to look over our family rules, homeschool mission statement, and family education goals.  In addition, the portion about high school and teenagers doesn’t quite apply yet because our oldest is only nine and doing 5th grade work.  However, I did watch those lesson videos and view the homework, both of which I think they will be appropriate for those who need them.

 OPC Homeschool Rescue 3

Finally, I want to talk a little bit about the Facebook group which I love so much.  I love that I could glean encouragement, support, and motivation from other homeschooling parents.  There a couple times that I wanted to ask questions and logged on only to find out that someone had posted the exact same question.  For example, I was able to get tips about the learning styles assessment and results prior to taking it so I was already prepared based off of information from the Facebook group.  There were also countless posts providing motivation to continue the course.  Often I felt like I didn’t have the time to devote to this course; however, the posts motivated me to MAKE TIME and see it through until the end.

 OPC Homeschool Rescue 1

So, all-in-all I think Homeschool Rescue by Only Passionate Curiosity would be a good course to take if you are feeling like it is time to update your home education process or if you are having feelings of consistent frustration, irritation, and burnout.  I also think that it is a good course for people who evaluate often like myself, because it allows you to take a deeper look at the way you homeschool.  We could all use a little help and what better way than through wisdom of instruction from a woman that has already walked in your shoes coupled with an online support group full parents who understand.

Happy Mother’s Day

I just wanted to take the time to say happy Mother’s Day to each and every mother that comes across this post.  I hope and pray that your day has been blessed and that you were able to love on each of your children.

Mothers Day 2

To all the mothers that have lost their children due to miscarriage or death I pray that you find comfort in the arms of the Father in Heaven and seek him for peace during this holiday.  I definitely understand what it feels like to lose such a precious gift but be encouraged that this holiday is still for you.  Your child may be in your heart but you too deserve to be celebrated on this Mother’s Day.

Mothers Day 3

Finally, to those of you who are spending this holiday with only memories of your mother, I pray you find strength and peace through connecting with others on this day.  Don’t spend it alone, but surround yourself with people that can support, encourage, and uplift you on this day.

Mothers Day 4

Make today memorable,

Ta’Neisha K.

Maximum Results in May

May Weight Loss

Hey May!

This month I have set several goals pertaining to tightening up (or fine tuning) my diet and exercise program.  I have stalled out because I stopped pushing myself and I definitely didn’t consume enough water last month.  As I rushed through my days I also missed A LOT of meals which didn’t help my already hindered metabolism.  Of course, the scale reflected that I was only doing the bare minimum so this month I need to double down so I can achieve maximum results.

Here are my goals for the month of May:

  • Complete 5 workouts each week
    • Cardio 5x
    • Weight 3x
    • Stretching before and after
  • Drink three (push for four) 32 ounce  cups of water daily
  • Enjoy outside play time with the children (family workouts) three times a week
  • Get eight hours of sleep nightly
  • NO electronics two hours before bedtime
  • Fasting cardio
  • BREAKFAST IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING MORNING WORKOUT

To hear more about what I’m doing this month and how grateful I am for all the support, encouragement, and accountability I’ve received from you all check out my recent Weight Loss Wednesday video.

Here’s to a great month and maximum results!

 Make this month marvelous,

Ta’Neisha K.
